FAQs About Tariffs
How much is the Tariff surcharge?
For orders received prior to April 14, 2025, we are adding a 7% tariff surcharge. For orders received after April 14, 2025, we will be adding a 10.5% tariff surcharge.
Important Surcharge Dates:
- Orders placed prior to April 14, 2025: 7% surcharge applied
- Orders placed after April 14, 2025: 10.5% surcharge applied
There is a 90-day pause on tariffs. Why are you still charging a surcharge?
The size and scope of the tariffs forced us into a position that we could no longer absorb the full cost or wait to price the 2026 Cape Shore line. While there is a 90-day pause in effect, it is not fully eliminating tariffs but only pausing the 145% tariff. Cape Shore's products are still subject to a 30% tariff during the 90-day pause.
When did you start paying tariffs?
Depending on the product category, tariffs have been in place for years. This cost has been included when we price the product line every year. However, in February 2025, an additional 20% went into effect. At that point, Cape Shore hoped we could ride out the increase with limited disruption to our customers. On May 12, the 145% tariff was paused, which reduced the tariff to 30% and lessened our surcharge.
Aren’t the tariffs paused?
The tariff landscape can be confusing. The term "pause" does not mean the tariff was completely removed. Some countries’ tariffs are paused, and some product categories are paused (electronics and some vehicle parts). However, products from China in our categories remain at 30%.
How much do the current tariffs cost Cape Shore?
The tariffs cost us 30% of the value of the goods. For example, if Cape Shore imports $100,000 worth of goods, we must pay the US government a tariff (tax) of $30,000 to get our goods released from the Port, bringing our total cost to $130,000 for that shipment.
What will happen to the surcharges if the tariffs drop or go away?
Cape Shore is monitoring the situation closely. Adjustments to the surcharge are being made dependent upon factors such as:
- How long have the rates been in effect?
- How much does the rate come down?
- The confidence level of the markets that the rates will stay down.
We will communicate our intentions and plans as the situation develops.
I placed my order months ago to be shipped at a later date. Why are you adding a surcharge to my order?
The size and scope of the tariffs required that we implement tariffs on all orders in-house, regardless of when they were placed. This is regrettable and unfair, but we are not in a position to be able to simply absorb the tariffs at the current rates.
I received my initial shipment before Cape Shore implemented a tariff surcharge. Why is a tariff surcharge being added to my backorder?
A backorder is generated when a product is out of stock at the time of the initial shipment. Due to the timing and implementation, all backorders include products that are affected by the tariffs. This is regrettable, but we are not in a position to be able to simply absorb the tariffs at the current rates.
Can I order at 10.5% and have it ship in the future?
Yes, any order placed after April 14th will have a surcharge of 10.5% and must ship before August 8, 2025.
How far out can I place orders?
We are currently taking orders to ship through August 8, 2025.
Can I add on to the future order or change it later?
Yes, as long as it has not been processed for name dropping.
Are you still going to have a new catalog and a new line in September?
ABSOLUTELY! Designing quality souvenirs is our business and we will continue to stock our shelves so you can also stock your shelves!
Are you going to have Prebook?
We intend to offer a prebook special as we have in the past. We will monitor the situation and keep you informed.
When your new catalog comes out, will the surcharge continue, or will prices go up?
This depends entirely on the rates and duration of the tariffs.
